History

More than 30 years of competence in the area of airport advertising – Here’s the story behind the company:









1970
1980

1971

Founded as the Gesellschaft für Flughafenwerbung mbH.
Shareholder: Flughafen Frankfurt Main AG (present-day Fraport) and DSR (Deutsche Städte-Reklame), present-day DSM (Deutsche Städte-Medien GmbH).
Company goal: Creation of an advertising concept and marketing the advertising media for Terminal 1 (under construction at the time).




Early 80s

Messe Frankfurt becomes the third shareholder.
The company name is changed to Media Frankfurt GmbH.
Extension of company goal: The additional development of advertising concepts for other means of transportation, as well as posting concepts for public spaces (until the late 80s). Frankfurt Airport buys back Messe Frankfurt's shares in Media Frankfurt.




1994

Terminal 2 opens for operation.
Media Frankfurt Company Goal: Creation of an advertising concept and, afterwards, marketing the advertising media.




1998

Media Frankfurt becomes a member of AMA, the Airport Media Association, which markets pan-European campaigns.




2001

JCDecaux France SA buys 39 % of the shares in Media Frankfurt. As the German market leader, Media Frankfurt gains access to a worldwide airport advertising network. JCDecaux Airport Media GmbH is founded together with the shareholders JCDecaux France SA (60 %) and Fraport AG (40 %).




2002

Access to the low cost segment due to a long term concession contract with Frankfurt Hahn Airport.
Media Frankfurt company goal: Marketing of all advertising possibilities in- and outdoor.




2003

Launch of citylighposters and City Light Boards at Frankfurt Airport.
Frankfurt is the first German airport that offers this short term advertising possibilities outdoor.




2004

Branding of 100 Jet Bridges.
Frankfurt Airport offers this spectacular advertising opportunity as the first Airport in continental Europe to one exclusive customer.




2005

Opening of the Light Corridor.
Since October the State Bank of the states of Hesse and Thuringia (Helaba) is advertising in the Light Corridor which includes the world's longest backlit advertising wall measuring 400 m.
